Getting started
- Do I need an account?
- No. Mot du Jour works without one, and everything you study with is free. An account is only for sync, the optional paid extra.
- Which devices does it work on?
- Any phone, tablet or computer with a modern browser. On an iPhone or iPad, open it in Safari and use Share, then Add to Home Screen, to keep it beside your other apps. Native apps for iPhone, iPad and Android are on the way.
- What do the levels mean?
- A1 to C2 are the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, from beginner (A1) to near-native (C2). The words are grouped by them, and you can study the whole list or one level.
- How many new words a day?
- You choose: 25, 50, 100 or 200. It starts at 25, and when you reach the day's limit you can ask for more.
Your progress
- Where is my progress kept?
- On your device, in your browser's storage. Nothing about it leaves the device unless you turn on sync, set a reminder or send a card report.
- What if I clear my browser's data or change phone?
- Progress kept only on a device goes with it. Before you do either, export your progress to a file or make a share link in the menu, and import it on the other device. Or use sync, which keeps a copy for you.
- Are there ads or tracking?
- No ads, no analytics and no tracking in the app. The Privacy page lists everything that is kept, and for how long.
Sync and payments
- What does sync do?
- It keeps your progress and settings the same on all your devices. See Pricing for what it costs.
- How do I cancel?
- In the app's menu, under Sync, choose Manage subscription. Sync keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Can I get a refund?
- Yes, in full, if you email us within 7 days of subscribing or renewing. The Terms have the details.
The cards
- I found a mistake on a card
- Thank you. Tap the flag on the card to report it. Reports are reviewed, and a fix is closed against the report that found it.
- Why can't I hear Listen on my iPhone?
- Silent mode can mute speech on an iPhone. Switch it off and raise the volume with the side buttons.
- Will it teach past and future tenses?
- Today a verb card shows the present tense, and the irregular ones show their full table. Past and future tenses, and reflexive verbs, are coming soon.
